The Beginning...

I've had this blog for almost half a year now without a single post so decided that today is the day I finally make a mark, and start to document my artistic journey. Being an artist is my dream, but doing a degree in International Development with Social Anthropology and Politics leaves me very little time to paint , draw or expand my creativity. My dream and vision for the future is to make art that challenges people to think about the world we live in, the types of people we meet, current affairs in the news, how our world is changing, not always necessarily for the better; encouraging them to step away and reflect upon their own lives and actions, and encouraging them to form their own opinion on these issues. My aim from the start has been to enhance and use my knowledge and understanding of International Development, and incorporate it into my art, bringing often censored and concealed issues to a wider audience of people, expanding the consciousness of such topics.

Since September 2015, I have aimed to develop a body of art that reflects on and draws people attention to some of the critical issues facing our world in the 21st Century. I have notebooks full of ideas and observations for pieces of art that are still to be made, ranging from themes of religion and corruption to sweatshop labour and consumeristic greed; all critical issues in the world we live in today.

Although I have very little time to do art on a day to day basis, it's presence and inspiration never ceases to influence my day. I am so excited to be off to India in June, to work in Dharavi, Asia's biggest slum, for 3 months. I hope that whilst i'm there I will be inspired to paint and and might actually have the time to manifest some of my creative frustration for the first time in possibly a year!
